Here are my final pieces all done and hung! We taped some little paper butterflies up around them just because!
I made three (as you can see!) and I love them! Here's a closer look:
This is the left one!
Here's the middle one!
And the right one!
You'll need a canvas with a wood framed back (that's what I used, but you can use whatever you'd like)
I cut out old magazine pictures. I used pictures of women, but hey go crazy!
Gggglueee!!! I just used rubber cement since guess who doesn't have a license to go to the store to buy decoupage glue! Rubber cement worked fine for me. When that ran out, we just used regular Elmer's glue. If you use it, apply it in VERY thin coats! Or else it soaks through the paper and ruins the pictures!!!
When you glue, it looks better if you layer instead of put things side by side! I tried to use as many different sizes of pictures as I could! It definitely looks better that way!
Once all the glue was dry, instead of more decoupage, we ended up putting Zip- Guard over the top. We used a satin urethane wood finish. It doesn't really "protect" the collage, it more gives it a shiny look. If you end up using something like this, BEWARE! If you use thin magazines (Like TIME), newspapers, etc. it sort of bleeds through and lets you see what is on the other side!!!
I love my collages! I hung them in my bedroom over my futon ( which has an ugly, old comforter thrown over it!)
