I'm not talking about those ones in high school where everybody dresses up, comes with a date, and rides in a limo! I'm talking those cheesy middle school dances with a crappy D.J., Casual dress, teacher chaperones, and about 200 sweaty screaming kids packed into half a cafeteria! That happened today. Pretty funny actually!
We do 'snowball' I'm sure most schools have their own variation of this... you know dance with someone until they yell 'snowball' and then you switch partners? Yeah pretty simple. Well our school dances SUCK! Well mostly if you're in student council! It means you have to pay to get in, bring decorations, decorate, manage snack table for an allotted amount of time, buy snacks or drinks (i.e. cookies or soda) to donate, pay to buy snacks or drinks at the dance, have limited dancing time, and have to stay after to clean up! The only plus is getting out of class 45 minutes early to set up! Anyway the dance went well! Except our new counselor was like obsessed with who was chaperoning the dance and kept asking about it at numerous meetings! Ugh! SO annoying! She was chaperoning and she was pretty much 'prowling' I guess you could say! Aren't chaperones supposed to stand awkwardly in a corner, maybe take some pictures, yell at kids for rough housing? She was literally walking through a fist pumping mob! What a weirdo! Okay so she totally bugs the crap out of me! She's asked for my name about 5 times and still can't remember it! Even though she can remember a sixth grader with the same name! What the ****? Okay enough ranting....But one of the best, and most annoying parts, is actually watching the sixth graders dance! They make sure to stay MORE than an arms length away from each other and sway awkwardly back and forth and then after, go and scream to their friends about who they had to dance with! It's HILARIOUS! But I guess you could say they 'ruin' it. The best dance is the graduation dance in May with only 7/8 graders! YAY! Okay this is way too long now! If you read this far, you're a trooper!!! Okay I'll end this now... after the next period... DONE.
